Political parties in the Jaman North constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region have agreed to postpone to tomorrow [Thursday] voting in the constituency.<\/p>\n
Afram Odiakopa, a reporter at Jenya radio in the region confirmed this development to Citi News and was later corroborated by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”751Gb0BdqxMlbFTdqB6tAt6NJN4Mg6gM”]Afram Odiakopa explained that\u00a0\u201cthere was a DISEC meeting and they came to the conclusion that the election processes be started but the NDC supporters did not agree. They were saying that additional names were still in the register and unless the names are deleted, they will never allow the Electoral Commission to dispatch the electoral materials.\u201d<\/p>\n
As of the time he filed his report, Afram Odiakopa said voters in the constituency were yet to be informed of the postponement.<\/p>\n
He also indicated that the political parties blamed the Electoral Commission (EC) for the additional names that were added to the voters’ register.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey all agreed and blamed the EC for the additional names,\u00a0but they didn\u2019t blame any political party; either the incumbent MP or the ruling National Democratic Congress or any other political party. But they blamed the EC,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Earlier, on Wednesday morning, Afram Odiakopa reported that voting had delayed in all the polling stations in the constituency because executives of the NDC in the area expressed worry over the voter transfer list which they claimed was bloated by over 30 names.<\/p>\n
He added that several efforts to have the situation resolved proved futile hence the crunch meeting that resulted in voting in the constituency being called off.<\/p>\n
