{"id":274136,"date":"2016-12-04T15:20:03","date_gmt":"2016-12-04T15:20:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=274136"},"modified":"2016-12-04T15:20:03","modified_gmt":"2016-12-04T15:20:03","slug":"special-voting-more-voters-turned-away-in-okaikwei-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/special-voting-more-voters-turned-away-in-okaikwei-north\/","title":{"rendered":"Special voting: More voters turned away in Okaikwei North"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some voters who turned up at the Okaikwei North constituency polling station in the Greater Accra region to cast their ballot in the ongoing special voting exercise were turned away again on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>This osbecause their names were not in the Electoral Commission&#8217;s (EC) register.<\/p>\n<p>As at 2.30pm on Sunday, 3 persons from the security agencies had been turned away from the polling station at the Achimota Police station.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-274149\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Special-voting-5-min.jpg\" alt=\"special-voting-5-min\" width=\"2592\" height=\"1728\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the officers who could not cast his ballot at the polling station told <strong>Citi News&#8217;<\/strong> Jonas Nyabor that he had been informed by colleagues he could cast his ballot within the constituency since he works within the constituency although he originally votes in another constituency.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-274148\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Special-voting-4-min.jpg\" alt=\"special-voting-4-min\" width=\"2592\" height=\"1728\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The returning officer at the polling station, Gershon Kudzordzi said 19 out of the expected 171 registered voters had cast their ballot as at 2.30pm at the polling station in today&#8217;s exercise.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-274146\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Special-voting-3-min.jpg\" alt=\"special-voting-3-min\" width=\"2592\" height=\"1728\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have not had any incident here, and the process is moving on smoothly. So far 19 people have cast their ballot. Three people came and their name was no in the registered and they were not allowed to vote,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-274144\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Special-voting-1-min.jpg\" alt=\"special-voting-1-min\" width=\"2592\" height=\"1728\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He however added that there was no update to the existing special voting list as expected by some voters.<br \/>\nAccording to him, the constituency was using the same list used in the first phase of the exercise on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, December 1 when polls opened for special voting, 327 out of the expected 498 voters reported to cast their ballots.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Disgruntled special voters offered another opportunity&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Electoral Commission on Thursday evening announced it had set Sunday [4th December] as a day to allow persons whose names were on the special voting list but were unable to cast their ballots on Thursday for various reasons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some voters who turned up at the Okaikwei North constituency polling station in the Greater Accra region to cast their ballot in the ongoing special voting exercise were turned away again on Sunday.
