campus director of public safety Monica Moll told reporters outside the university hospital.<\/p>\n<p>She added that it is &#8220;very fortunate that an OSU [Ohio State University] officer was there and took quick action.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Columbus Police sent a SWAT team, dog units, negotiators and a helicopter to the scene.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"http:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/159B3\/production\/_92699488_hi036624587.jpg\" alt=\"police\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/>Ohio State University is one of the largest in the US<\/span><\/figure>\n<p>Federal officials from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded.<\/p>\n<p>Columbus Police Chief Kimberley Jacobs said that her officers would work with federal officials to try to determine the motive as well as anyone that the suspect may have communicated with.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Obviously with the purposeful intent that was noticed &#8211; student Cydney Ireland told ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Probably five seconds after that there were three gunshots and it sounded like a handgun.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And I&#8217;ve never seen anything like it.
