It is unclear the specific purpose for which he sent the ‘gift’, but it is believed the gesture was part of the candidate’s campaign strategy to woo the students; most of whom are registered voters in the constituency to vote for him in the upcoming elections.

The constituency spans Legon, East Legon, Okponglo, Abelenkpe, Dzorwulu and Roman Ridge/Airport Residential area.

The Legon electoral area holds the highest number of registered voters in the constituency and has been tipped by many pollsters as an important area in determining the ultimate winner of the seat.

It may be a surprising turn of event for most political watchers as the incumbent MP, Emmanuel Agyarko deployed the same strategy; distributing free bags of water to students on the University’s campus.

Ahead of the December polls, Mr Agyarko, who is seeking reelection has been spotted many times visiting students in their rooms and on shuttles sharing with them why they need to vote him to remain the Member of Parliament for the constituency.
