The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deceiving Ghanaians with its free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

The party said, it will offer a proper and effective Free Compulsory Basic Education (FCUBE) policy if voted to office in December.

According to the party’s Presidential candidate, Papa Kwesi Nduom, the PPP is the best political party to deliver effective educational policies.

Addressing some teacher associations at the GNAT Hall in Accra on Friday morning, Nduom said the governing NDC’s free education policy was a substandard version of what the country’s constitution stipulated.

He also accused the NDC of delaying the implementation of the FCUBE.

“We must not allow what has been happening and what has been perpetuated by the President John Dramani Mahama. We cannot allow that to continue. You can’t get the constitution which says this is what you must do and then you decide to do it in your own time but you have 8 years that you’ve been at the highest level of government, put all that aside and you [Mahama] still talk about progressively free, expanding access incrementally.”

“For me, free does not mean go and bring this or that. Nowadays they even sometimes, say go and bring your own chair, that is not part of free so that sought of policy must stop,” he said.

He said a PPP government will prioritize education

Dr. Nduom assured the teachers that a PPP government will prioritize education and implement effective policies that will promote the growth of the sector.

He also promised to make delays in the payment of salaries of teachers a thing of the past.

‘Government must invest more in education’

Dr Nduom earlier this year, while addressing students of the Catholic University College, called for more investment in the educational sector to enable the country achieve a higher literacy rate.

He argued that if such efforts are not adopted, the country will continue to suffer the challenges of underdevelopment.

–

By: Jonas Nyabor/citifmonline.com/Ghana

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deceiving Ghanaians with its free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
