The President, John Mahama has disclosed that Ghana has achieved sufficiency in maize, yam and cassava production.<\/p>\n
He has therefore indicated his government would take steps to ensure an increment in investment on the production of rice, sugar, poultry and tomatoes.<\/p>\n
This he said will help reduce the country’s dependency on imports.<\/p>\n
In a post on his Facebook page on Monday, the President promised that government\u00a0will identify young people interested in agriculture while small-scale farmer groups will be supported with technical assistance.<\/p>\n
Government over the years has been making efforts to attract the youth into taking up farming to create employment opportunities.<\/p>\n
This is also aimed at curbing the upsurge in rural-urban migration in Ghana.<\/p>\n
According to President Mahama, his government \u201cwants the youth to understand that agriculture is not only for the elderly and that farming is a rewarding business.\u201d<\/p>\n
