{"id":27,"date":"2014-02-20T22:40:10","date_gmt":"2014-02-20T22:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=27"},"modified":"2014-02-23T08:58:14","modified_gmt":"2014-02-23T08:58:14","slug":"sanusi-to-challenge-suspension-in-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/02\/sanusi-to-challenge-suspension-in-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanusi to challenge suspension in court"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_28\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Mallam-Sanusi-Lamido.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-28\" title=\"Lamido Sanusi \" alt=\"Mallam Sanusi Lamido\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Mallam-Sanusi-Lamido-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Mallam-Sanusi-Lamido-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Mallam-Sanusi-Lamido.jpg 594w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lamido Sanusi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Suspended Governor of the Bank of Nigeria,\u00a0Lamido Sanusi\u00a0has told\u00a0<strong>Citi FM<\/strong>\u00a0he will contest his suspension in court.<\/p>\n<p>Lamido Sanusi told\u00a0<strong>Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Vivian Kai Mensah<\/em>he would go as far as the Supreme Court to challenge the powers of the President to suspend the governor of the Central Bank.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will take it as far as the Supreme Court if need be challenging the powers of the president to suspend the governor of the central bank without 2\/3 of the senate.<\/p>\n<p>The law is clear, the law says the President cannot remove the governor without 2\/3 of the senate, so what I think we now need is to have an interpretation of this removal, if you remove somebody for a week or for two weeks or indefinitely have you removed him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lamido Sanusi was suspended on Thursday by President Good luck Jonathan for \u201cfinancial recklessness and misconduct\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>His woes begun in 2013 when he\u00a0alleged that $20bn in oil revenue had gone missing.<\/p>\n<p>He was asked to step down by\u00a0President Jonathan after he made the allegation but refused to do so.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, his move to hit the courts is not to stay in office but to ensure that the Central Bank is protected from political interference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me look For me , I have had a wonderful [time] in the last four and half years as governor, I don\u2019t plan to go back and so I have had my last day however, I will challenge it because of the institution.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President in my view did not have the legal power to do that and I need to make sure that the court makes that ruling so that the Central Bank is protected from political interference<\/p>\n<p>I will take it to court not because I want to go back, even if the court ruled that it is wrong I\u2019m not going back.
