{"id":269521,"date":"2016-11-17T22:41:51","date_gmt":"2016-11-17T22:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=269521"},"modified":"2016-11-17T22:41:51","modified_gmt":"2016-11-17T22:41:51","slug":"bimbilla-ndc-candidate-promises-cash-reward-for-inter-tribal-marriages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/11\/bimbilla-ndc-candidate-promises-cash-reward-for-inter-tribal-marriages\/","title":{"rendered":"Bimbilla: NDC candidate promises cash reward for inter-tribal marriages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Democratic Congress\u2019 (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Bimbilla constituency, Dr. Joseph Kwabena Manbour- Rockson, has promised cash rewards for inter-tribal marriages between Nanumbas and Konkombas.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, such marriages could help to end the protracted ethnic conflict between the two tribes.<\/p>\n<p>He said this during a parliamentary debate organized by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) as he pledged to consolidate \u00a0peace and stop the inter-tribal conflict between Nanumba and Konkombas.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Manbour-Rockson said, &#8220;peace is very important in Nanung and I belief strongly that peace is holding in Nanung. When we talk about peace, we should thank the security forces ie the police and the army for the excellent work they are doing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have a campaign message that I have promised to provide money for a Nanumba or Konkomba who will marry from either tribe. I pledge this openly, we need to integrate to create peace and to live peacefully in Nanung. We need to bridge this bridge so that Nanumbas, Konkombas, Chekosis, Ashantis and any other tribe will live as brothers and sisters in Nanung.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Parliamentary candidates in the Bimbilla constituency in general pledged to engage in issue-based campaign ahead of the polls.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/20161115_145527.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-269445\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/20161115_145527.jpg\" alt=\"Bimbilla\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Four candidates are contesting for the parliamentary seat in the Bimbilla constituency but only three candidates turned up for the debate: \u00a0Dr Manbour-Rockson, the Convention People&#8217;s Party\u2019s (CPP) Alhassan Samed and the Progressive People&#8217;s Party\u2019s (PPP) Iddisah Zehara.<\/p>\n<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate who is the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Bimbilla constituency, Dominic Nitiwul, did not participate in the debate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Mohammed Aminu M.
