Over twenty-six thousand\u00a0election officers would be deployed to play various roles to ensure the smooth conduct of next month\u2019s general election in the Ashanti Region.<\/p>\n
Mr. Lawrence Sarpong, the Deputy Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), said they would include 131 returning and deputy returning officers, 186 key trainers \u2013 technicians, 5,190 presiding officers, 182 collation officers, and 20,760 polling assistants.
\nHe told journalists in Kumasi that the Commission was given adequate training to them for the\u00a0credible conduct of the polls.<\/p>\n
The technicians and returning officers had already completed their training, he added.
\nMr. Sarpong said he was upbeat about the successful conduct of the election across the 5,190 polling centres in the region.<\/p>\n
All the vital materials \u2013 ballot boxes, screens, seals, validating stamps, electoral forms endorsing and indelible ink were ready.<\/p>\n
He indicated that the EC was deepening the engagement with the media, persons with disability, faith-based organizations and other groups to aid everybody to have a\u00a0better understanding of the electoral rules.
\nHe said they were also collaborating with the security agencies to make sure that peace and security is maintained at the various polling stations on election day.<\/p>\n
