The parliamentary candidates of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamza Yahaya Alikali and the Peoples National Convention’s (PNC), Andani Abdul Latif boycotted the ongoing parliamentary debate organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Yendi constituency.<\/p>\n
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) incumbent Member of Parliament, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani and the Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP) parliamentary candidates, Wumbei Ugan however honored the invitation where they took the opportunity to outline their policies and plans for the constituency if voted as MP in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n
The NCCE\u2019s Yendi Municipal Director, Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan Iddi who was unhappy about the NDC and PNC candidates\u2019 absence,\u00a0commended the NPP and PPP candidates for honoring the invitation.<\/p>\n
Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan Iddi said Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani and Wumbei Ugan demonstrated their commitment to deepening political dialogue in the area.<\/p>\n
Addressing the participants, Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani mentioned education, health, water, agriculture and youth employment as some of the major areas the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would concentrate on when given the mandate on December 7.<\/p>\n
He reassured the constituents that the Akufo Addo led NPP administration would fulfill all its campaign promises that seek to boos the country’s economic fortunes and create more jobs.<\/p>\n
Alhaji Tijani reiterated his determination to implement its free-Senior High School policy touted in the 2012 elections.<\/p>\n
He said the policy would ensure that more young people in the constituency enrolled in school to become responsible citizens and not\u00a0financial burdens to their parents and guardians.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to poverty most parents find it difficult to send their children to school .and even some of the schools are under the trees but let me assure you that my party will solve these problems when elected on December 7,<\/span>\u201d he said.<\/p>\n He bemoaned the high level of teacher absenteeism and attributed the situation to lack of motivational packages for some of them particularly those posted to remote areas.<\/p>\n He said the next NPP administration would subsidize farm inputs to promote commercial agriculture for farmers.<\/p>\n \u201cThe next NPP government will subsidize farm inputs particularly fertilizer to enable farmers adopt agribusiness practices as means of promoting commercial agriculture,” he said.<\/p>\n Alhaji Tijani also condemned the increasing spate of internet fraud, popularly known as \u201cSakawa” in the area and admonished parents to discourage their children from that social vice.<\/p>\n He pleaded with traditional authorities not to interfere in the duties of the law enforcement agencies by pleading for lawbreakers before, during and after the elections.<\/p>\n The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) Parliamentary candidate, Wumbei Ugan expressed worry about the influx of Fulani herdsmen in the Yendi Municipality.<\/p>\n He promised to liaise with the chiefs in the area to find a lasting solution to the problem.<\/p>\n Wumbei Ugan also said the PPP would create enough jobs to reduce the level of youth unemployment.<\/p>\n The debate say\u00a0Chiefs, political party members, civil society organizations, religious bodies, heads of departments, the media and security operatives in Yendi Municipality present to witness and also ask questions about the plans of the aspiring parliamentarians.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The parliamentary candidates of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamza Yahaya Alikali and the Peoples National Convention’s (PNC), Andani Abdul Latif boycotted the ongoing parliamentary debate organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Yendi constituency.
