The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Kojo Bonsu, has advised students who have just completed the week-long Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) not to consider the BECE as an end to their educational persuit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
An official of the assembly, Mrs Lois Ohene-Ayisi, gave the advise on behalf of Mr Bonsu when a team from the assembly and the Metro Educational Directorate visited some schools in the metropolis yesterday, the final day for the BECE.<\/p>\n
The team, led by the Metro Educational Director, Mrs Naana Abudu, toured some centres in the metropolis, including the Serwaa Nyarko Girls and the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) centres.<\/p>\n
Mr Bonsu advised the students to continue learning and prepare themselves to continue their education to the next level.<\/p>\n
Mrs Abudu expressed delight at the number of candidates who took part in the examination, saying, the number of female students was encouraging.<\/p>\n
The Principal of KTI, Dr Joseph Abeiku Apprey, urged the government to invest more in vocational and technical education.<\/p>\n
He said there was the need to place emphasis on technical-based education to train the needed human resource to support the country\u2019s efforts at attaining a middle-income status and to safeguard the future of the youth.<\/p>\n
He said the country needed to move away from the concept of just going to school to get a certificate and concentrate on learning to get the needed skills that could support the country\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n
In separate interviews with the Daily Graphic, some of the students expressed the optimism of making it to senior high school.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
