Presidential hopeful of the Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP), for the December 7 polls, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has assured the leadership and members of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), of his party\u2019s commitment to job creation when voted into office to govern the country.<\/p>\n
Dr. Nduom, who met the leadership\u00a0of the TUC in Accra to share his party\u2019s vision with the Union, said his \u201cparty when voted, will create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth scattered\u00a0across the country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”jLgS7t6ojLog4E0L6QY1NHMSNlx9S7g4″]According to him, the only way out for the country to turn its fortunes around was not to rely on empty promises like some other political parties are doing.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe are talking from what we have done in the various sectors of the economy in some communities across Ghana, which we know and believe it will work for the whole country,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n The PPP 2016 flagbearer noted that, about 53% of the Ghanaian population is into agriculture, yet that is where poverty is endemic.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cA PPP-led government will work hard to eradicate all preventable diseases like malaria to increase productivity in all sectors,\u201d he promised.<\/span><\/p>\n Answering a question posed to him\u00a0by a member of the Union on whether Ghana needs the Bretton Woods institutions, especially the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dr. Nduom made it clear that Ghana does not need any of the Bretton Woods institutions before it can thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe do not need anybody from anywhere to come and tell us what to do as a sovereign nation. Ghanaians want the easy way out hence always running to the waiting arms of these multinational institutions anytime there is difficulty,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n In this regard, he promised that a PPP government under his watch will not succumb to the whims and caprices of the Bretton Woods institutions no matter the situation.<\/p>\n For instance, he cited the examples of China and Korea, and how these countries rejected the Bretton Woods institutions.<\/p>\n However, he said through some sacrifices and dint of hard work by those\u00a0countries, they are now better off.<\/p>\n \u201cSee where China and Korea are? This is the kind of decisions we will opt for in order to build our economy,\u201d he further stressed.<\/p>\n Secretary General of TUC, Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, on his part, thanked Dr. Nduom for making time to share with the Union his party\u2019s vision, policies and programmes.<\/p>\n
