{"id":264216,"date":"2016-11-02T06:00:23","date_gmt":"2016-11-02T06:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=264216"},"modified":"2016-11-02T06:00:23","modified_gmt":"2016-11-02T06:00:23","slug":"nr-nhis-in-limbo-as-major-provider-withdraws-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/11\/nr-nhis-in-limbo-as-major-provider-withdraws-services\/","title":{"rendered":"N\/R: NHIS in limbo as major provider withdraws services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA)\u2019s major service provider in the Northern Region, Peekay Gombi Pharmaceuticals, has withdrawn its services with effect from November 1, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>This is because of the NHIA\u2019s failure to pay claims submitted for 13 months of service delivery to NHIS subscribers in the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of NHIS subscribers in Tamale Metropolis who as usual queued at the Peekay Gombi Pharmaceuticals were on Monday November\u00a01 turned away.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Executive Officer of Peekay Gombi pharmaceutical, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdul Rauf Peekay Gombila, told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> the NHIA owed him Ghc2 million.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/4d7cfaae-c777-4453-8816-5c460d781d68.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-264240\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/4d7cfaae-c777-4453-8816-5c460d781d68.jpg\" alt=\"4d7cfaae-c777-4453-8816-5c460d781d68\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe total value is around two billion old currency and I cannot continue to service the NHIS subscribers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NHIA owes me three months in 2015, and 10 months in 2016, and so I thought it wise that if I don\u2019t stop the NHIS subscribers and continue to supply the drugs, I will have problem with the suppliers because there \u00a0is no money to pay them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He has vowed never to resume serving NHIS subscribers in the Northern Region until the NHIA defrays the accumulated Ghc2 million outstanding amount.<\/p>\n<p>According to Alhaji Peekay Gombila, management of 16 pharmaceutical companies supplying him drugs have also withdrawn their services.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/dbc4991e-ee80-402d-b821-009b7e898216.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-264241\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/dbc4991e-ee80-402d-b821-009b7e898216.jpg\" alt=\"dbc4991e-ee80-402d-b821-009b7e898216\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI deal with 16 companies and the major ones are Ernest Chemist, Tobinco and Rena Chemist, and I cannot continue to tell them that the NHIA has not paid me so\u00a0the best thing to do is to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to do cash and carry to pay my suppliers and if the next one hour the NHIA pays the accumulated debt, I will resume services to the NHIS subscribers,\u201d Alhaji Peekay Gombila declared.<\/p>\n<p>Peekay Gombi Pharmaceuticals is a major retailer supplying other over the licensed counter chemical shops across the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p>Government has struggled to sustain the NHIS financially, a situation that has affected the quality of service rendered to beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA)\u2019s major service provider in the Northern Region, Peekay Gombi Pharmaceuticals, has withdrawn its services with effect from November 1, 2016.
