The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sacked some 23 disgruntled members who are contesting the upcoming general elections as independent parliamentary candidates.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the National Executive Commission (NEC) took the decision because the candidates per their actions have breached the party\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has come to the notice of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that some party members, including some sitting members of parliament are contesting as independent parliamentary candidates in the 2016 General Elections.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe General Secretary acting on behalf of NEC wishes to inform the general public and especially all such persons that they are in breach of articles 8( d,f); 45( a,b,c &e) and 46(10) of the party’s constitution. The affected persons by their conduct and on their own volition have ceased to be members of the party,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
The party further ordered the affected persons to desist from using party paraphernalia and also return any party property in their possession.<\/p>\n
The candidates were mainly from six regions namely: Upper West, Central, Northern, Western, Volta and Upper East.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Eyewitness News<\/strong>, a Deputy General Secretary \u00a0of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho defended the decision saying the candidates were creating confusion for the party in the various constituencies.<\/p>\n \u201cSome of them are going around saying vote for me and vote for the President and this is creating confusion for the party,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n Below is the full statement from the NDC\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n BREACH OF PARTY CODE OF CONDUCT<\/strong><\/p>\n It has come to the notice of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that some party members, including some sitting members of parliament are contesting as independent parliamentary candidates in the 2016 General Elections.<\/p>\n The General Secretary acting on behalf of NEC wishes to inform the general public and especially all such persons that they are in breach of articles 8( d,f); 45( a,b,c &e) and 46(10) of the party’s constitution.
