{"id":263111,"date":"2016-10-29T15:08:23","date_gmt":"2016-10-29T15:08:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=263111"},"modified":"2016-10-29T15:08:23","modified_gmt":"2016-10-29T15:08:23","slug":"central-african-republic-clashes-leave-25-dead-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/central-african-republic-clashes-leave-25-dead-un\/","title":{"rendered":"Central African Republic: Clashes leave 25 dead &#8211; UN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Twenty-five people have been killed in two days of violence in the Central African Republic, the UN peacekeeping mission has said.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, 15 people died in clashes between Muslim fighters of the former Seleka militia and the Christian vigilante anti-Balaka group, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Six police officers and four civilians died in an ambush on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Central African Republic has been wracked by conflict along religious and ethnic lines since 2013.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/10580\/production\/_92144966_carbambari4641016.png\" alt=\"map\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Saturday, the Minusca mission said &#8220;clashes between elements of the anti-Balaka and ex-Seleka caused 15 deaths and a number of wounded&#8221; in the town of Bambari, about 250km (150 miles) north-east of the capital Bangui.<\/p>\n<p>It added that &#8220;six gendarmes and four civilians lost their lives on Friday morning in an ambush on the Bambari-Grimari road&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The UN mission urged all armed groups to end &#8220;the cycle of attack and reprisal&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Seleka rebels briefly seized power in March 2013 and deposed the Christian President Francois Bozize.<\/p>\n<p>The Seleka group was itself then ousted, leading to a wave of violent reprisals against the Muslim population by the Christian anti-Balaka militia.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people have been killed and hundreds of thousands displaced in the CAR since 2013.<\/p>\n<p>More than 12,000 UN peacekeepers are deployed in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Twenty-five people have been killed in two days of violence in the Central African Republic, the UN peacekeeping mission has said.
