A sod cutting ceremony to start work on a three-storey classroom block has been marked at the 37 Military Hospital Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) in Accra.<\/p>\n
Major General Sampson Adeti, Chief of Staff, General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Brigadier General Ralph Kodjo Ametepi, Director General of GAF Medical Services jointly cut the sod.<\/p>\n
The project funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund, would house an ultra-modern library, a state of the art laboratory and a hall.<\/p>\n
Addressing the gathering, Major General Adeti noted that the ceremony marked a milestone in the life of the NMTC since its establishment in July 1947.<\/p>\n
According to him the College since its first accreditation in November 2003, had not relented in its efforts to ensure the provision of high standard training.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe College has the eagle eye and commitment to be the best Military nursing training institution along the West African sub region.\u201d<\/p>\n
Major General Adeti said the Military High Command was determined not to restrict training offered in the College to only Military personnel but widen it to include civilians as well.<\/p>\n
He therefore commended the College for contributing to providing a reliable breed of professionals who could be found in almost all health facilities across the country and abroad.<\/p>\n
Major General Adeti said discipline and professional training of the NMTC made the College the preferred choice.<\/p>\n
He said it was sad that reasonable number of qualified applicants were turned away annually as a result of inadequate infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to assure you all that the completion of this project, many more applicants would be catered for and the College\u2019s profile would be raised,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He therefore charged the contractor to hand over the project within the stipulated period.<\/p>\n
Colonel Sally Mensah, Principal, NMTC, said the college aimed to be a degree awarding institution by early next year and commence with a master\u2019s programme.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cThe College is also looking forward to having exchange programme with other military nursing institutions outside the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe College wishes to maintain and even do better in line of its discipline, effective nursing skills and good attitudes towards clients in the country and United Nations Operations.\u201d<\/p>\n
She urged corporate bodies and institutions to assist the College to put up hostel facility, an alumni house, volley and basketball pitches.<\/p>\n
The project which is expected to be completed within a year would be executed by M\/S Assumadu Construction Works Limited.<\/p>\n
