The King of Nzemaland King Kaku III has called for the immediate removal of the injunction on the Ghana Gas project at Atuabo.<\/p>\n
He says the land on which the gas infrastructure is situated does not belong to the chiefs and people of Atuabo and Anorchie communities.<\/p>\n
The Paramount chief of Eastern Nzema Traditional Area Awulae Amihere Kpenyili III sought for an injunction from the Sekondi High Court on the project demanding that proper procedures are followed in acquiring the land.<\/p>\n
The court instituted a fourteen day injunction asking Ghana Gas to settle the issues or a perpetual injunction is put on the project.<\/p>\n
However, in what appears to be a twist to the story, the supposed Chief of Nzemaland, \u00a0Kaku Ackah III says the land in question is part of land he owns from the Ankobra River through to the border Town of New Town which covers the Elembelle and Jomoro Districts.<\/p>\n
He says litigation on the land between himself and the Awulae is yet not settled for one party to place an injunction on portions of it.<\/p>\n
He appealed, \u201cJust as there has been an injunction on the Gas Infrastructure, so we are also contending on the land. We are appealing to the judge to immediately remove the injunction to allow them (Ghana Gas) to continue with their constructional activities.\u201d<\/p>\n
He says ownership of the land as claimed by the Awulae of Atuabo and Tufuhene of Anorchie is false stating that the entire parcel of land on which the two communities are located were given to them by his great grandfather in 1851.<\/p>\n
He added that the interest of the state should be of paramount importance to all and with such injunction on the Gas project; the economic downturns as a result of shortage in supply of gas from Nigeria will worsen the situation.<\/p>\n
