{"id":261446,"date":"2016-10-24T21:01:18","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T21:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=261446"},"modified":"2016-10-24T21:01:18","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T21:01:18","slug":"pnc-petitions-ec-over-mahamas-disqualification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/pnc-petitions-ec-over-mahamas-disqualification\/","title":{"rendered":"PNC petitions EC over Mahama&#8217;s disqualification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The People\u2019s National Congress (PNC) has accused the Electoral Commission of breaching the provisions of the law in the <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/10\/why-nduom-and-12-other-presidential-aspirants-were-disqualified\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>disqualification<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of its presidential candidate, Dr Edward Mahama from the upcoming Presidential elections.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers of the party in a letter dated 19<sup>th<\/sup> October, 2016 and addressed to the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/10\/why-nduom-and-12-other-presidential-aspirants-were-disqualified\/\">Electoral Commission<\/a><\/strong><\/span> provided explanations to the issues\u00a0the EC raised about their candidate\u2019s nomination form which formed the basis for his disqualification.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;O3d2jbRZFEPxZ6PzwfpB8D5BNLLbK56O&#8221;]The PNC\u2019s Edward Mahama, was disqualified from contesting in the upcoming presidential elections together with 12 other aspirants due to some anomalies in their submitted nomination forms.<\/p>\n<p>According to the EC, the PNC\u2019s candidate was disqualified for reasons that include, many subscribers not properly signing the forms. It also said two subscribers to Dr Mahama forms had also subscribed for another presidential candidate, an act which was not acceptable according to the electoral laws. It also said Dr. Mahama did not have the requisite number of subscribers required under Regulation 7(2) (b) of CI 94.<\/p>\n<p>But according to lawyer for the PNC, Dr Raymond Akongburo Atuguba, the EC went outside its convention and practices leading to Mahama\u2019s disqualification.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-point letter noted that \u201caside breaching the clear provisions of the law in this matter, the EC went outside its convention and practices.
