{"id":261369,"date":"2016-10-24T17:22:02","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T17:22:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=261369"},"modified":"2016-10-24T17:22:02","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T17:22:02","slug":"catholic-bishops-commend-ec-for-2016-election-measures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/catholic-bishops-commend-ec-for-2016-election-measures\/","title":{"rendered":"Catholic Bishops commend EC for 2016 election measures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Catholic Bishops Conference has commended the country\u2019s Electoral Commission (EC) for the measures it has put in place to ensure a free, fair and credible election.<\/p>\n<p>They say the EC must be adequately resourced to ensure deliver on their mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe comment the Electoral Commission for all the measures it has put in place to ensure peaceful, free, faiur, transparent and credible elections. We strongly urge that the Commission should be provided with all the logistics necessary for the elections,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>A communiqu\u00e9 issued by the Conference after its annual Plenary Assembly in Tamale in the Northern Region called on politicians to desist from the temptation of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/16\/catholic-bishops-conference-condemns-vote-buying\/\">vote buying<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections which they said had the potential of jeopardizing the credibility of the elections.<\/p>\n<p>It said, \u201csuch practice is an insult to the intelligence and dignity of the unsuspecting voters. We call for a stop to such acts of vote buying and also entreat the electorate to desist from yielding to such needless enticements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Conference however warned the EC to avoid complacency since the success of the forthcoming elections, depended on it.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that \u201cthe integrity and success of the, forthcoming elections depend primarily on the Electoral Commission.
