{"id":260093,"date":"2016-10-20T15:48:01","date_gmt":"2016-10-20T15:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=260093"},"modified":"2016-10-20T15:48:01","modified_gmt":"2016-10-20T15:48:01","slug":"pnc-executives-face-impeachment-over-mahamas-disqualification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/pnc-executives-face-impeachment-over-mahamas-disqualification\/","title":{"rendered":"PNC executives face impeachment over Mahama&#8217;s disqualification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An appointed officer of\u00a0the People\u2019s National Congress (PNC) plans to lead a campaign to impeach all the party\u2019s national executives if the PNC Flagbearer, Dr. Edward Mahama&#8217;s disqualification from the 2016 presidential race is not overturned.<\/p>\n<p>The officer, Director of Communications for the PNC, Emmanuel Wilson, told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> if Dr. Mahama&#8217;s name is not on the ballot paper come December 7, the executives would have failed their mandate and thus must be removed.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;qX8oyc253VM5uC7d4txjGU7sEWQpG1Uc&#8221;]Mr. Wilson explained that &#8220;the very core mandate that was given to them by congress is that they were to ensure that we go to this election and not just go to this election but maximize our fortunes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the unlikely event the court refuses our plea, it will mean that we will not be able to contest this election and that would meant that the national executives have failed to execute their core mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If it so happens then what it means is that there might be a process to start impeaching all the national executives because they have then failed to execute their core mandate,\u201d Mr. Wilson stated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The EC <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/10\/ayarigas-apc-ppp-pnc-others-disqualified-from-2016-polls\/\">disqualified<\/a><\/strong><\/span> Dr. Edward Mahama and 12 other presidential aspirants from contesting in the December elections after failing to meet the necessary requirements in the filing of their nomination forms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/700cc718-7a85-4cc8-a6c1-6a9e089a3255.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-253779\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/700cc718-7a85-4cc8-a6c1-6a9e089a3255.jpg\" alt=\"Edward Mahama, Bernard Mornah, PNC\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Dr. Mahama\u2019s case, the EC explained that two subscribers to his nominations, also subscribed for another presidential candidate, thus breaking the\u00a0rules.<\/p>\n<p>The PNC\u00a0has since given the EC till Friday to revoke the disqualification of its Flagbearer, Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama or face them in court because the party maintained that the\u00a0disqualification of its Flagbearer was unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An appointed officer of\u00a0the People\u2019s National Congress (PNC) plans to lead a campaign to impeach all the party\u2019s national executives if the PNC Flagbearer, Dr. Edward Mahama&#8217;s disqualification from the 2016 presidential race is not overturned.
