{"id":260059,"date":"2016-10-20T18:00:48","date_gmt":"2016-10-20T18:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=260059"},"modified":"2016-10-20T18:00:48","modified_gmt":"2016-10-20T18:00:48","slug":"ec-builds-capacity-of-pwds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/ec-builds-capacity-of-pwds\/","title":{"rendered":"EC builds capacity of PWDs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has built the capacity of Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Northern Region on the upcoming December 7 elections.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop organized by the EC and sponsored by the European Union (EU) brought together members of the Ghana Federation of the Physically disabled, Ghana Association of the Deaf and the Ghana Blind Association.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-260084\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/EC-PWDs-5-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"ec-pwds-5\" width=\"620\" height=\"827\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They were educated on some highlights of the new Constitutional Instrument (CI94) covering the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-260083\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/EC-PWDs-4-1-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"ec-pwds-4\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Northern Regional EC Director, \u00a0Bruce Ayisi assured the participants that they would be given preferential treatment on the day of the polls.<\/p>\n<p>The participants suggested that the demarcated polling stations should be accessible to all \u00a0Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-260081\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/EC-PWDs-2-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"ec-pwds-2\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They also called on\u00a0that the EC to\u00a0engage the services of interpreters to coach the PWDs on the elections day.<\/p>\n<p>A Deputy Northern Regional EC Director, Benjamin Banoh-Bio said the EC had already directed all district Directors to relocate poling stations that are inaccessible to the PWDs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-260082\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/EC-PWDs-3-1-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"ec-pwds-3\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He also encouraged the PWDs to introduce themselves to the polling or presiding officers on the voting day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has built the capacity of Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Northern Region on the upcoming December 7 elections.
