{"id":259446,"date":"2016-10-18T16:00:36","date_gmt":"2016-10-18T16:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=259446"},"modified":"2016-10-18T16:00:36","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T16:00:36","slug":"governments-urged-to-prioritize-research-and-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/governments-urged-to-prioritize-research-and-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Governments urged to prioritize research and technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>African governments have been urged to focus more of its efforts and resources on research and technology to drive the continent\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Samuel Boateng, Head of Oil and Gas Department at the All Nations University College (ANUC), said that was the way forward to lift the people out of poverty.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking at this year\u2019s \u2018world space week\u2019 celebration held in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was jointly organized by the Electronics and Communications Department of the University&#8217;s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Institute of Electricals and Engineering, National Society of Black Engineers and Society of Petroleum Engineers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfrican space festival\u201d was the theme chosen for the event and the goal was to highlight the vital role of technology to socio-economic development.<\/p>\n<p>It brought together students from various Senior High Schools across the Eastern Region.<br \/>\nDr. Boateng said it was important to encourage and motivate Ghanaian students to study science, technology, and mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>He indicated that there should not be any time to waste and that Africa needed to step up its efforts to catch up with the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Dickson Amakye, the Head of the Electronics and Communications Department, expressed optimism that the celebration would ignite the passion of the youth for science and technology education.<br \/>\nHe called for the nation to develop an electrical and electronics industrialization plan to speed up its technological advancement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: GNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>African governments have been urged to focus more of its efforts and resources on research and technology to drive the continent\u2019s development.
