{"id":259061,"date":"2016-10-17T15:30:33","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T15:30:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=259061"},"modified":"2016-10-17T15:30:33","modified_gmt":"2016-10-17T15:30:33","slug":"govt-army-stealing-our-lands-la-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/govt-army-stealing-our-lands-la-youth\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t, Army &#8216;stealing&#8217; our lands &#8211; La youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aggrieved youth of the La Traditional Area have accused the\u00a0John Mahama-led government of neglecting Ga-Dangme people and allowing\u00a0the Ghana Armed forces to illegally acquire their lands.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a press conference in Accra today [Monday], a group calling itself the Coalition of La Youth Association alleged that the Ghana Armed Forces has arbitrary destroyed farmlands without providing compensation and stolen their lands under the guise of creating buffer zones.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the press, the Chairman\u00a0of the association, Augustine Nii Amoanai, gave the government a week to address their concerns over the Army&#8217;s land acquisition or face their wrath.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/bcd23560-76eb-4ca3-a7e9-c0ccd87141d4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-259090\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/bcd23560-76eb-4ca3-a7e9-c0ccd87141d4.jpg\" alt=\"bcd23560-76eb-4ca3-a7e9-c0ccd87141d4\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are by this statement giving government one week to act swiftly on these matters of despicable and gross neglect of the Ga Dangme people otherwise we shall advise ourselves accordingly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the group, \u201cwith the connivance of the Ghana Armed Forces and the Lands Commission, Ga-Dangme lands have been plundered in an unprecedented manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gov&#8217;t\u00a0hasn&#8217;t\u00a0done enough to protect lands<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Amoanai insisted that President Mahama could have intervened and addressed their grievances as \u201ca word from our President and Commander and Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces would have brought some order and sanity to bear in this unruly behavior of the military.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0warned that any society could lose its language, identity and existence when they are disposed of their lands and \u201cthis is exactly what the government is perpetuating on our land,\u201d adding that\u00a0\u201cwe are more than convinced that at this moment, the government and its apparatchiks are bent on destroying the culture of our land.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group also bemoaned the silence of influential Ga-Dangmes\u00a0over\u00a0concerns about their lands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSadly enough, our brothers and sisters around and within the corridors of owner have lost their voices relative to issues affecting the Ga-Dangme\u00a0people which silence we find as condoning the raw deal government is serving our people,\u201d Mr. Amoanai said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aggrieved youth of the La Traditional Area have accused the\u00a0John Mahama-led government of neglecting Ga-Dangme people and allowing\u00a0the Ghana Armed forces to illegally acquire their lands.
