The final trailer for the hotly-anticipated \u201cRogue One: A Star Wars Story\u201d dropped Thursday, giving fans more insight into the beginnings of the saga\u2019s rebel alliance two months ahead of the movie\u2019s release.<\/p>\n
The first standalone \u201cStar Wars\u201d story, \u201cRogue One\u201d is set just before \u201cA New Hope\u201d \u2014 the original film in the blockbuster series \u2014 and stars Felicity Jones as rebel Jyn Erso alongside Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker.<\/p>\n
Following a grand \u201cStar Wars\u201d tradition, the trailer teases a film preoccupied with the themes of family loyalty and the conflicts of parenthood \u2014 with the usual weird aliens, light sabers and stormtroopers thrown in for good measure.<\/p>\n
\u201cJyn, whatever I do, I do it to protect you,\u201d Mikkelsen\u2019s Galen Erso tells his little girl at the opening of the 157-second spot, which premiered during ABC\u2019s \u201cGood Morning America.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a big reveal, Galen is shown to be instrumental to the Empire in building their weapon of mass destruction, the Death Star.<\/p>\n
The strained father-daughter relationship appears to spur on Jyn \u2014 a delinquent with a string of convictions for forgery, assault and theft \u2014 as she embarks on a mission to destroy the planet-sized weapon.<\/p>\n
The first full-length trailer released in August gave fans their first glimpse of Darth Vader since 2005\u2019s \u201cRevenge of the Sith.\u201d<\/p>\n
Viewers are again treated to a split second cameo by the Dark Lord of the Sith, this time from the front as he listens to the Empire\u2019s Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) boasting about the awesome power of his new toy.<\/p>\n
It has not been revealed which actor has been hired for Vader\u2019s latest big screen outing, due to hit theaters in the United States on December 16.<\/p>\n
The character was voiced in the original trilogy by James Earl Jones, now 85, while 81-year-old David Prowse donned the iconic cape and helmet.<\/p>\n
Last year\u2019s \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d made more than $2 billion worldwide, and analysts have backed \u201cRogue One\u201d to dominate this year\u2019s box office.<\/p>\n
