Six people were killed when a Hyundai mini-bus on which they were travelling collided head-on with a Burkina\u00a0 Faso-bound articulator truck loaded with tonnes of heavy mining equipment at Odumase, in the Asante-Akim Central Municipality.<\/p>\n
Seven other passengers suffered broken bones and cuts, two of them were said to be in critical conditions, and had to be rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), a major referral facility in Kumasi.<\/p>\n
The remaining are on admission at the Konongo-Odumase and Agogo Presbyterian Hospitals.<\/p>\n
Only one of the deceased, the driver of the bus, Kwaku Duah, has been identified.<\/p>\n
The bodies of the rest, three men and two women, had been deposited at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital morgue.<\/p>\n
The crash happened at about 1030 hours on Tuesday, drawing a large crowd of people to the place \u2013 a mangled scene of horror, and many could not hold back their tears.<\/p>\n
According to eye witnesses, the driver of the bus attempted to pass a line of vehicles,\u00a0 and in the process crashed into the truck.<\/p>\n
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Edward Osei, the Konongo Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), said they received a distress call and immediately responded to rescue the injured and to remove the dead.<\/p>\n
DSP\u00a0Osei\u00a0 told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that\u00a0 five of the people died on the spot,\u00a0 and one later,\u00a0 at the Konongo-Odumase Government Hospital.<\/p>\n
He said the police together with personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and other rescuers,\u00a0 had a hectic time cutting through the wreckage.<\/p>\n
