{"id":258228,"date":"2016-10-14T13:33:43","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T13:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=258228"},"modified":"2016-10-14T13:33:43","modified_gmt":"2016-10-14T13:33:43","slug":"ppp-turns-to-eoco-to-probe-ecs-error-ridden-receipt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/ppp-turns-to-eoco-to-probe-ecs-error-ridden-receipt\/","title":{"rendered":"PPP turns to EOCO to probe EC\u2019s \u2018error-ridden\u2019 receipt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP), has turned to the Economic and Organized Crime Office\u00a0(EOCO), and the Auditor-General, to investigate the Electoral Commission for giving them a receipt they claimed is ridden with mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>According to the party, they believe the EC \u201cis on a course of a possible fraudulent act\u201d because of the receipt which was for the payment of nomination fees for their presidential and parliamentary candidates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;5jroJWcxTHmQKKBGl4ird9tSG2OCBWQ8&#8243;]\u201cDo you know that the receipt EC gave us for the payment of the deposit had Gh1, 700.00 in words, but in figures they wrote One Million Seven Hundred (<strong>r<\/strong>\u00a0was placed after\u00a0<strong>e<\/strong>\u00a0instead of vice versa) Thousand Ghana cedis. Apart from this, on the same receipt, the EC wrote \u2018being payment of parliamentary candidate\u2019 (without\u00a0<strong>s<\/strong>) as if payment was made for only one parliamentary candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly, we have every reason to believe that the EC has set itself on a course for a possible fraudulent act and we have therefore written to the Auditor-General and the\u00a0Economic and Organized Crime Office\u00a0(EOCO) to investigate this matter and prosecute the perpetrators if deemed necessary,\u201d Director of Policy for the PPP, Kofi Asamoah Sia, \u00a0said at a press conference today, [Friday].<\/p>\n<p>He argued that \u201cadministrative errors\u201d are inevitable hence the EC shouldn\u2019t have disqualified its flagbearer, Papa Kwesi Nduom from the December polls.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-253712 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ed526013-a66c-4daa-9dad-f51707399134.jpg\" alt=\"EC, Charlotte Osei\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes this not mean that it is possible for everyone to make administrative errors? If this is true, why does the EC want to work together with political parties with iron fists? Why is the EC adamant on its position and is not ready to open up for any discussion? Is this belligerent posture of the EC not dangerous for our multi-party democracy?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PPP goes to court to fight disqualification<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PPP&#8217;s presidential nominee, was among <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"https:\/\/contextly.com\/redirect\/?id=Gc7hiOHId7:258228:2934:13:::sidebar:5800db650a9bd6-56851966\"><strong>12 other parties<\/strong><\/a><\/span> whose presidential nominees were disqualified from the race due to errors on their nomination forms.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the PPP had vowed to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/14\/ec-was-bias-nana-addo-is-guilty-of-perjury-ppp\/\"><strong>fight the disqualification<\/strong><\/a><\/span> with all of its might.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Godwin A.
