The Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Jacob Kor, has told Citi News that a headmaster of a Senior High School in the Brong Ahafo Region will soon be fired for charging unapproved fees.

Although he failed to mention the name of the headmaster in question, he said the headmaster allegedly violated a GES directive not to charge first year students, unauthorized fees.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ykVJyAJNYiq5JQ1n4h0UsXWR4WX0NkUh”]In a Citi News interview, Mr. Kor said the GES will soon complete its investigations into the matter, and warned other headmasters to desist from the practice.

“I have taken an action and even there is a head master now who is going to lose the position as it happened to one headmaster in the Central Region. This time it is in the Brong Ahafo Region and that person is going to lose the position because of illegal school fees collection.”

He further reiterated his resolve to deal with head teachers who charge unapproved fees.

“I will not back track until there is sanity. We must all move towards the right direction. Parents may not have the fees and that should not deny the child from going to school. So I’m repeating, no headmaster should pick anything which has not been authorized by the Ghana Education Service. I would have to say that, most of my heads are doing very well, those who are recalcitrant, the law will take its course and the long arms of the law would catch up with them soon,” he added.

Mfantsipim headmaster ordered to step aside over ‘illegal’ fees

The Headmaster of Mfantsipim School in the Central Region, was in January 2016 ordered to step aside for allegedly charging unapproved fees.

“As a result of the collection of illegal fees from students of Mfantsipim School, you are directed to immediately step aside from responsibilities as the Headmaster of the school, pending further investigations into the illegal collections,” a statement from the GES added.
