{"id":257736,"date":"2016-10-13T10:01:05","date_gmt":"2016-10-13T10:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=257736"},"modified":"2016-10-13T10:01:05","modified_gmt":"2016-10-13T10:01:05","slug":"kma-to-vote-to-elect-presiding-member-after-9-failed-attempts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/kma-to-vote-to-elect-presiding-member-after-9-failed-attempts\/","title":{"rendered":"KMA to vote to elect Presiding Member after 9 failed attempts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will today [Thursday] sit for the 7th time to choose a Presiding Member following 9 previous unfruitful elections.<\/p>\n<p>The Assembly has been without and Presiding Member for almost a year\u00a0and efforts to elect one\u00a0several occasions, have not been successful.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;OV4AKaRg6IpcTqUDgKwxPs10PDKqV6ow&#8221;]But the Public Relations Officer for the KMA, Godwin Okumah Nyame is optimistic that today\u2019s voting would produce a presiding member for the assembly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are some of the consequences, if we are not able to elect a President Member, that the Assembly will continue to experience but we are hoping that should have a Presiding Member [today].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He however noted that, \u201cwe are now at a crossroads\u2026 \u00a0as it stands now, by the 31st of this month, we are supposed to make sure that our composite budget is approved and also forwarded to the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Finance for the preparation of the national budget.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Presiding Member hurdle hurting KMA\u2019s image<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A former Chief Executive Officer of the KMA, Samuel Sarpong,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/03\/presiding-member-hurdle-hurting-kmas-image-samuel-sarpong\/\">appealed<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to assembly members to bury their political and parochial interests and elect a Presiding Member today.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the constant failure to elect a Presiding Member is impeding development in the metropolis.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sarpong also said the violence that had characterized the election of a Presiding Member in recent times is giving the assembly a bad image across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will today [Thursday] sit for the 7th time to choose a Presiding Member following 9 previous unfruitful elections.
