{"id":256924,"date":"2016-10-11T06:00:34","date_gmt":"2016-10-11T06:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=256924"},"modified":"2016-10-11T06:00:34","modified_gmt":"2016-10-11T06:00:34","slug":"ec-has-cleared-charlatans-from-appearing-on-ballot-paper-ndebugri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/ec-has-cleared-charlatans-from-appearing-on-ballot-paper-ndebugri\/","title":{"rendered":"EC has cleared &#8216;charlatans&#8217; from appearing on ballot paper &#8211; Ndebugri"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A private legal practitioner, John Ndebugri is\u00a0full of praise for\u00a0the Electoral Commission (EC) and its Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, following the disqualification of 13 presidential aspirants from the race to the Flagstaff House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the first time, the Electoral Commission is applying the law and I applaud the Electoral Commission under the leadership of Madam Charlotte Osei and I encourage her to keep it up and look more closely on all aspects of the electoral process so there will be sanity in this country of ours,\u201d Mr. Ndebugri said on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The former MP for Zebilla believes the EC\u2019s handling of presidential aspirants over the years has been lax as \u201csome charlatans have gotten onto the ballot paper and they just have made some people lose interest in the politics of this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey just break the rules, cut corners and they get themselves onto the ballot paper just for the purpose of egoistic extension of their being and so on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The EC on Monday <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/10\/ayarigas-apc-ppp-pnc-others-disqualified-from-2016-polls\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>disqualified 13<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0aspirants from contesting the elections\u00a0due to what it described as failure by the affected aspirants to meet the necessary requirements in filling their forms.<\/p>\n<p>Among the disqualified aspirants were\u00a0Hassan Ayariga of the All People&#8217;s\u00a0Congress (APC), the People\u2019s National Convention&#8217;s (PNC) Dr. Edward Mahama, the Progressive People\u2019s Party&#8217;s (PPP) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, and 10 others.<\/p>\n<p>The disqualification left\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/10\/mahama-nana-addo-greenstreet-and-joy-cleared-for-2016-polls\/\">four aspirants qualified <\/a><\/strong><\/span>for now including the\u00a0Presidential candidates of\u00a0the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Convention People\u2019s Party\u2019s Ivor Greenstreet, and Jacob Osei Yeboah [JOY], an independent candidate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/election-2016-presidential-candidates-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-256861\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/election-2016-presidential-candidates-1.jpg\" alt=\"election-2016-presidential-candidates\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following the disqualification of the candidates, arguments have been made\u00a0that the EC did not comply with the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 94 because it failed to contact the candidates to inform them about the errors, and to allow them time to make the necessary changes on their forms.<\/p>\n<p>But Mr. Ndebugri noted that &#8220;the stipulated nomination period was 29<sup>th<\/sup> and 30<sup>th<\/sup> September 2016 so if you filed your thing at 8 am on the 29<sup>th<\/sup>, you had quite some time for you to be invited to come and explain your error. That will be between 29<sup>th<\/sup> 8 am and 5pm on the 30<sup>th<\/sup> of September.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The concerns notwithstanding, he indicated that there should be little room for error allowed for persons aspiring for the highest office of the land.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn any case, are you not to complete your forms diligently?
