{"id":255012,"date":"2016-10-05T08:02:16","date_gmt":"2016-10-05T08:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=255012"},"modified":"2016-10-05T08:02:16","modified_gmt":"2016-10-05T08:02:16","slug":"fidelity-bank-targets-stock-market-in-2-to-5-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/fidelity-bank-targets-stock-market-in-2-to-5-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Fidelity Bank targets stock market in 2 to 5 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Indigenous bank, Fidelity, has disclosed to <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> it is working to list on the Ghana Stock Exchange, at least within the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>The bank also believes the move will among others propel it into the top three banks in the short to medium term.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Jim Baiden, specific decisions on the percentage to be floated to the public are yet to be determined though management has approved an Initial Public Offer (IPO) of the company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have plans to do an IPO; it is foreseeable that within the next two to five years, we will open up the bank and invite local shareholders to take equity in the bank because we are a Ghanaian bank and are therefore willing to invite people who are interested in investing in banking services to do so,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The MD added, \u201cThe fine details are yet to be determined but the plan to engage in an IPO has been approved by our Board but we haven\u2019t started work on it yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Baiden made the remarks at an event to launch Fidelity bank\u2019s Prestige banking services and appreciate some of its customers.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining the rationale for the product, Jim Baiden said, \u201cthe objective of our refreshed prestige offering is to get more personal with our clients\u2026with Fidelity\u2019s prestige offering, we are creating a whole new banking experience with convenience, ease and quick financial solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For his part, the Group CEO of Fidelity Bank, Edward Effah recounted the successes by the bank since its inception as a discount house some 18 years ago through to becoming a local bank in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>He also assured of \u2018leveraging on the bank\u2019s partnership with IBM to use technology advancement to improve on its partnership and systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the couple of syndicated loans that Fidelity Bank has been part of is the current 1.8 billion dollars cocoa syndicated facility signed for the purchase of cocoa beans for the 2016\/2017 cocoa crop year.<\/p>\n<p>Other syndicated loan agreements include the 22 million dollars to finance the construction of 49.5 MW emergency plant, 39 million dollars for Job 600 currently being used as offices for Parliamentarians and the 100 million dollars facility to finance the completion of the 220 MW Kpone Thermal Plant and the dual fuel conversion works on the 80MW mines reserve plant at Tema.<\/p>\n<p>Fidelity Bank was issued with its universal banking license on 28<sup>th<\/sup> June, 2006.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, it was the 22<sup>nd<\/sup> bank to be licensed by the Bank of Ghana under the new Banking Act 2004 (Act 673).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Pius AmihereEduku\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indigenous bank, Fidelity, has disclosed to Citi Business News it is working to list on the Ghana Stock Exchange, at least within the next two years.
