{"id":25483,"date":"2014-06-17T12:34:51","date_gmt":"2014-06-17T12:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=25483"},"modified":"2014-06-17T12:49:35","modified_gmt":"2014-06-17T12:49:35","slug":"northern-region-records-high-road-accidents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/06\/northern-region-records-high-road-accidents\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Region records high road accidents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the intensive campaigns, the Northern Region keeps recording the highest number of road accidents.<\/p>\n<p>According to the regional secretariat of the National Road Safety Commission, the region recorded 464 road accidents for the year 2012 out of which 99 victims died whilst 365 got injured.<\/p>\n<p>The year 2013 recorded a total of 767 road accidents out of which 167 died whilst 600 got injured.<\/p>\n<p>So far, about 136 accidents have been recorded for the first quarter of 2014 out of which 29 lives were lost whilst 107 got injured.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Regional Coordinator of the National Road Safety Commission, Alex Aryeetar in a Citi News interview described the situation as totally unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Aryeetar whose outfit has vigorously embarked on sensitization campaigns called for collective efforts to reverse the trend.<\/p>\n<p>He attributed a chunk of the road accidents to transit long vehicles from neighboring Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Aryeetar reiterated the need for police personnel on the highways to intensify their checks to ensure that long journey drivers take their mandatory rest after every four hours journey.<\/p>\n<p>This in his estimation could reduce carnage on the highways which is reducing the nation\u2018s human resource base.<\/p>\n<p>He also impressed upon political, religious and traditional leaders in the region to stop pleading for offenders of traffic regulations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the intensive campaigns, the Northern Region keeps recording the highest number of road accidents.
