{"id":252677,"date":"2016-09-28T06:00:59","date_gmt":"2016-09-28T06:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=252677"},"modified":"2016-09-28T06:00:59","modified_gmt":"2016-09-28T06:00:59","slug":"grasag-to-demonstrate-today-over-bursaries-thesis-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/09\/grasag-to-demonstrate-today-over-bursaries-thesis-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"GRASAG to demonstrate today over bursaries, thesis grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Graduate Students Association of Ghana, GRASAG, is set to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/09\/26\/grasag-to-embark-on-demo-over-unpaid-bursaries\/\">hit the streets of Accra today<\/a><\/strong><\/span>[Wednesday], to protest against what they deem a delay in the release of their bursaries and thesis\u00a0grants.<\/p>\n<p>Their action is to put pressure on government to fast-track processes to pay them the monies, which have been in arrears since last academic year.<\/p>\n<p>GRASAG earlier this month <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/09\/21\/graduate-students-call-off-planned-picketing-of-flagstaff-house\/\">planned to picket at the Flagstaff House<\/a><\/strong><\/span> over their concerns, but called it off to further engage the government in addressing their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>However, the association says government did not adequately address their concerns hence the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement signed by the President of the Association, Rashid Kwesi Etuaful, and copied to <strong>citifmonline.com<\/strong>, their meetings with the Scholarship Secretariat and the Ministry of Education to have the payments initiated have proved futile.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstrators will march from the Obra Spot through Nkrumah Avenue, Kinbu SHS \u2013 Tema Station \u2013 Atta Mills High Street to the Hearts of Oak Park (Art Centre), where a press conference will be held before a petition is submitted to the Ministry of Finance and the President through the Chief of Staff.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said the action will commence at the\u00a0Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle at 7:30am.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;USAG endorse GRASAG action&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG), endorsed the Graduate Students Association of Ghana\u2019s (GRASAG) decision to picket at the Flagstaff House.
