The Local Government Service has denied reports in a section of the media that suggests the Secretariat is recruiting staff to fill positions in some Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

A notice purported to have been sent from the Service urged persons interested in working in the public service to purchase application forms from the Ghana Publishing Company and submit the completed forms for recruitment in the District Assemblies and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

But according to a statement signed by the Public Affairs Officer of the Local Government Service Secretariat (LGSS), no such directive has been issued and the claims must be disregarded.

The statement noted that, LGSS recruits staff with clearance from the Ministry of Finance when there are gaps.

It added that, the LGSS is “only responsible for recruitment of staff for the Secretariat, the Regional coordinating councils, Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies and their Substructures and not Central government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.”

“There is no such thing as Local government services form. There is only a Public Services Commission (PSC) Form 2 which is completed by persons seeking employment in the Ghana Public Service (Civil and Local Government Services inclusive),” the statement said.

“The statement said there are laid down processes and procedures which all Public Service Institutions including the Local Government Service must adhere to in the event of recruitment. The Service wishes to assure the general public that when such opportunities turn up, the processes and procedures will be followed and the general public will be duly informed,” it added.
