Melchi, yes, Melchizedek Owusu Boachie, host of “In Love’ on JEM FM in the Garden city every Wednesday from 9pm to 12midnight and “Sunday school” a three hour gospel show every Sunday from midday to 3pm, has no familiar ring around his name.

But that exactly is his claim to fame, indeed the very factor that propels him whenever he takes charge of the console, confounding listeners with insightful content, and getting some seasoned players edgy as he makes inroads.

Melchi is a born broadcaster. He is versatile, with a baritone, velvety- like voice that captures the imagination and attention of even the pedestrian radio listener.

“Radio comes to me naturally. Regardless of whatever state of mind I am in on a given day, the moment I breeze into the studio, I get energized, reinvigorated and all pepped up: my listeners, my priority.”

For me radio is about content. Capturing the attention of listeners is hinged on content. Listenership is content- driven, and to a very large extent schedule-driven.

Melchi, his trade name, is notoriously attached to radio, a passion he developed even when radio had not gained popularity on the local media landscape.

“I had always natured that ambition of being a radio a presenter, a passion driven by my quest for excellence and the need to use this powerful tool to expand the frontiers of media freedoms as enshrined in chapter twelve of the 1992 constitution”. He declared with pride.

Melchi is of the conviction he would make strides, regardless of imprints made by some stalwarts. Hear him: “I am a man on a mission to succeed. I liken radio to marketing. I am into niche marketing. I am carving a niche for myself with my show. The program is infectious and deep and that is my claim to fame,” he assured.
