The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, has launched the \u201cNational Theatre Season\u201d on the calendar of the Ministry at the Ashaiman Senior High School.<\/p>\n
She also launched the National Drama Festival for second cycle schools.<\/p>\n
Ms Gomashie said with the influx of foreign culture, it was important to imbue into young people the values of their cultural heritage and the true essence of those values.<\/p>\n
\u201cDrama embodies the aspirations of people and involves the interaction between traditional values and the demands of modern life. Drama gives us an insight into our history, philosophy, religion, creativity and experiences,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister noted that the National Drama Festival would give the Regional Drama Festival a new dimension as winners from the 10 regions would have the chance to interact with colleagues from other regions.<\/p>\n
She said the dissemination of positive values was very important, and \u201cfor this reason, it would be desirable for the plays to reflect themes on nationalism, tolerance, good governance, productivity, cultural renaissance, among others.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister said the National Commission on Culture, intends to publish the best adjudged plays after the event.<\/p>\n
Freeman Abugri, Director of Cultural Education, Ghana Education Service, said the festival would also help grow the creative potentials in students and inculcate patriotism and a strong sense of national identity in them.<\/p>\n
The Drama Festival for Senior High Schools would open at the National Theatre on September 25 to September 28.<\/p>\n
Participating schools would comprise of the best from each region who would compete for national honors.<\/p>\n
