{"id":24816,"date":"2014-06-14T06:15:22","date_gmt":"2014-06-14T06:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=24816"},"modified":"2014-06-14T21:36:55","modified_gmt":"2014-06-14T21:36:55","slug":"i-am-grateful-for-the-rule-of-law-asamoah-boateng","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/06\/i-am-grateful-for-the-rule-of-law-asamoah-boateng\/","title":{"rendered":"I am grateful for the rule of law &#8211; Asamoah-Boateng"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Information Minister under the Kufuor administration, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng says he is grateful for the existence of <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"d54e27f5-885e-4fca-b043-4c9453b00673\">rule<\/span> of law following his discharge and acquittal by the Accra High Court.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Asamoah-Boateng, his wife, Zuleika Lorwia and six <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"a273dd21-0377-4845-a07d-fe9a2747b690\">others including<\/span> a former deputy Information Minister in the same administration, Frank Agyekum were charged with conspiracy to defraud the state in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>The charges were in relation to a contract awarded to Mr Asamaoh-Boateng\u2019s sister-in-law for some renovation works at the Information Ministry during his tenure of office as sector Minister.<\/p>\n<p>The charges included contravention of the public procurement act and conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>But the Accra High Court discharged and acquitted the former Minister and his wife.<\/p>\n<p>However, Frank Agyekum has been ordered by the court to open his defense <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"7d699423-e845-4382-b272-a751ff1bc910\">for<\/span> the case.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Mr. Asamoah-Boateng said: \u201cIt is true<span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"4d92f441-277f-44b6-9d5a-6dae4fe44c45\">\u2026<\/span>I kept on saying that God is on my side in everything I do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He dismissed reports that the said contract was awarded to his sister in-law saying, \u201cthere was no contract awarded to my sister in-law.
