President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), government to possibly increase the number of the country\u2019s administrative regions to fifteen when given a second term at the December polls.<\/p>\n
President Mahama said this when he delivered highlights of the party\u2019s yet-to-be launched manifesto on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the State House.<\/p>\n
John Mahama\u2019s promise comes at a time when the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has promised to increase Ghana\u2019s ten regions to 11, by creating another region<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, out of the Western Region.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”l3gvLR3uYok8r5pTsH3oHel9ZI7zotgy”]Some members of the incumbent government criticized Nana Addo describing his promise as unnecessary, with others saying it is\u00a0 unrealistic.<\/p>\n President Mahama said \u201cWe will set up a commission of enquiry to look into the creation of new regions. We currently have ten regions; but we believe that it is possible to increase the number of regions to 15. And so we will set up a commission of enquiry that will look at the viability of increasing the number of administrative regions in Ghana from ten to fifteen. And so this commission will receive petitions and based on that, they will look at whether creation of those regions are viable options or not; and based on that recommendation, we will trigger the constitutional processes.\u201d<\/p>\n Manifesto <\/strong><\/p>\n The President revealed that the yet-to-be launched manifesto, titled \u2018Changing Lives, Transforming Ghana\u2019, is structured in four thematic areas.<\/p>\n \u201cIt has been done in a very simple style and it has a brief introduction and we have it in four thematic areas and for every sector it introduces briefly, and it talks about our achievements and our commitments for the next four years is going to be.\u201d<\/p>\n The manifesto will be officially launched on Saturday September 17, at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.<\/p>\n –
