Citi Business News understands that the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant has begun receiving some 80 million standard cubic feet of gas from the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.

[contextly_sidebar id=”g6EkL4TWjbkNL1ymea7c9KRx6LoSbTVb”]It follows the successful completion of routine maintenance works on the gas plant which lasted for 10 working days.

The Corporate Communications Manager of Company, Alfred Ogbarmey also told Citi Business News that the Volta River Authority (VRA) is currently receiving some 34 million standard cubic feet of gas to power its thermal plants in Aboadze.

“We are back on stream and we are being offered the maximum of 80 million standard cubic feet of gas the FPSO can offer to us. Of the 80 million standard cubic feet of gas we are receiving currently, we are giving VRA some 34 million standard cubic feet of gas as they can take approximately around that figure,” Mr. Ogbarmey explained.

Alfred Ogbarmey added that beyond the 34 million standard cubic feet of gas being given to VRA Ghana Gas also use the rest to produce LPG and condensing.

He said due to the experience and professionalism of the staff of Ghana Gas the plant came back on stream earlier than the 10 days which was anticipated.

“We basically finished the maintenance work in five days and kick started the plant in the following day after having resolved all challenges.”

The Atubao Gas Processing Plant was shut down for routine maintenance having been in operation for more than 12,000 hours since pre-commissioning and commissioning activities started in 2014.

At the time of the shutdown, Ghana Gas Company Limited ruled out any significant impact of its ten day shutdown of the Atuabo gas processing plant, on the country’s power supply, for the period.

It further noted the maintenance was to facilitate warranty assurance on the installed equipment.

Though the development was expected to affect the quantity of gas supply to various thermal plants for power generation the power sector managers played down any major impact on power customers of electricity.

The Deputy Minister of Power, John Jinapor, assured of stable power to electricity consumers despite maintenance exercise being carried out by the Ghana Gas company on the Atuabo Gas Plant.
