Two people are feared dead after a galamsey pit caved in on them in Akyem Ahwenease in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n
A resident of the community, who only gave his name as Bismark, told Citi News that one other person was injured.<\/p>\n
\u201cAround 4pm, we heard some noise at the site. When we rushed to the placed we saw that the pit had caved in. Two people are dead and one is injured,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also said that the person who was injured has been rescued.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were able to rescue the injured person but the two are still down there. the chiefs and everyone in this area are gathered there and looking at how to retrieve the bodies, hopefully by tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
The menace of galamsey is one that has plagued the nation for a long time.<\/p>\n
There have been reports of galamsey polluting water bodies in different parts of the country.<\/p>\n
Many of these people who are involved in the act say that they have nothing else to do.<\/p>\n
