Accra based Montie FM has for the second time topped the chart of stations in Ghana which uses abusive expressions.<\/p>\n
A recent report by the\u00a0Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) said\u00a0the station \u201ctopped the pack of stations that recorded the use of abusive expressions on their platforms with 83 incidents followed by Oman FM (54) and Happy FM (30).\u201d<\/p>\n
Montie FM, a pro-government radio station, \u00a0in June 2016<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0was cited by MFWA for the same act.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”pb69hoILkwxThDtuzojmUgmkt4D7OVrq”]The recent report according to the foundation, covered the period of April-June, 2016.<\/p>\n The MFWA campaign language monitoring project is aimed at encouraging people to be measured in their use of language by naming and shaming those who use abusive expressions on radio.<\/p>\n Excerpt of MFWA report<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cDuring the monitoring period, seven different categories of indecent expressions were used by officials, supporters and affiliates of seven political parties \u2013 New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP), Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP), People\u2019s National Congress (PNC), Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP) and a group introduced as National Labour Party (NLP).\u201d<\/p>\n The report also said: \u201cOverall, unsubstantiated allegations (127) and insulting and offensive comments (127) were the most used indecent expressions during the quarter. Other indecent expressions used during the period included provocative comments (52), remarks endorsing violence (20), remarks inciting violence (8), remarks promoting divisiveness (7) and tribal slurs (2).\u201d<\/p>\n Montie owners hot<\/strong><\/p>\n Managers of Montie FM have in recent times been rebuked by the Supreme Court for allowing their platform\u00a0to be used by some social commentators to threaten the lives of judges in the country.<\/p>\n They were fined GHc60, 000<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>while the two presenters who made the threat as well as host of the programme on which the threats were issued, were fined GHc10, 000 each and sentenced to four months in imprisonment.<\/p>\n They were later pardoned<\/strong><\/a><\/span> by President John Mahama after a month of being in jail.<\/p>\n Click here for MFWA\u2019s full report:<\/strong><\/p>\n Click here for MFWA’s full report<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
