The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has said it has made significant progress on investigations into the controversial President John Mahama’s 100,000 Ford gift<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 saga.<\/p>\n

Head of Public Relations at CHRAJ, Akosua Edu, told Citi News<\/strong> that though their investigations have reached advanced stages, Ghanaians should exercise patience to enable them adequately deal with the matter.<\/p>\n

The investigation is being done in accordance with CHRAJ’s investigation regulation. I believe the petitioners have confidence in us that is why\u00a0 they brought the petition to us to work on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have made significant progress and recommendations would be brought out when we are ready. Please give us the\u00a0time to continue with the investigation. At the end of the day, when the recommendations are out, it would allay any fears because for now; if we are not ready; we can\u2019t come out and say we are ready. We are doing our work and the work must be properly done and so we don\u2019t need to rush, this is a delicate issue,\u201d Akosua Edu added.<\/p>\n

CPP, PPP petitions CHRAJ<\/strong><\/p>\n

CHRAJ was petitioned by the youth wing of the Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP), the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), and a private citizen to investigate the matter.<\/p>\n

Critics are of the view that; the $100,000 dollar Ford vehicle gift presented to President Mahama in 2012, when he was Vice President, amounts to conflict of interest, and that he must be impeached since the contractor, Djibril Kanazoe, is also said to have been awarded some lucrative government contracts.<\/p>\n

Speaker throws out minority motion<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, last Thursday; threw out a motion<\/strong><\/a><\/span> filed by the Minority calling for parliamentary investigations into the matter.<\/p>\n

The Speaker argued that CHRAJ has the legal and constitutional mandate and the capacity to deal with the matter.<\/p>\n

CHRAJ as part of investigations, has\u00a0already interrogated some high ranking government officials including former Interior Minister, Mark Woyongo.<\/p>\n
