Barely a year after the re-introduction of the collection of Television License Fee, there are already calls to review the law to factor in the realities of the changing times.
According to players in the hospitality industry in the Ashanti Region, the current state of the law is tilted towards hotel operators in vibrant commercial areas, which have appreciable share of the market.
Members of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Hoteliers Association raised this concern among other issues in Kumasi, during their interaction with GBC’s TV License Fee Collection Team.
The Association is the umbrella body for operators of the over 600 hotels in the region.
The TV License Fee Collection Team was present at the Association’s quarterly meeting to educate the members on the TV License Law and the payment arrangements.
The Regional Chairman of the Association, David Donyina, enumerated the major concerns of the hoteliers with regard to the TV License law.
The Head of the TV License Fee Collection Team, Pastor Ebenezer Botwi, took the hotel operators through the law, the various fee classifications and modalities for payment.
He agreed to the suggestion for a review of the TV License law.
