{"id":244668,"date":"2016-08-31T18:54:54","date_gmt":"2016-08-31T18:54:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=244668"},"modified":"2016-08-31T18:54:54","modified_gmt":"2016-08-31T18:54:54","slug":"minority-being-mischievous-with-mps-recall-over-ford-gift-saga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/minority-being-mischievous-with-mps-recall-over-ford-gift-saga\/","title":{"rendered":"Minority being mischievous with MPs&#8217; recall over Ford gift saga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Majority in Parliament has accused\u00a0the Minority Leader of the House, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, of being economical with the truth on <strong>Citi TV\u2019s Politicos<\/strong>, when he intimated that he\u00a0was in the dark as to the reasons for the recall of\u00a0members from their recess.<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference today [Wednesday], the Majority revealed that the motion for the request for the recall of Parliament, which is connected to President John Mahama and the Ford gift saga, was signed by Mr. Mensah-Bonsu himself.<\/p>\n<p>The Majority thus accused the minority of mischievously trying to throw dirt at President Mahama\u00a0as the Majority Leader of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, confirmed that the motion was \u201cfiled and signed by the Minority leader, Honourable Osei Kyie Mensah Bonsu for and on behalf of the Minority caucus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Minority Leader had <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/30\/i-dont-know-the-reason-for-mps-recall-minority-leader\/\">told the host<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of <strong>Politicos<\/strong> on\u00a0<strong>Citi TV<\/strong>, Umaru Sanda Amadu, that he had not received any formal communication about the reason for the summons and that when he &#8220;heard from the grapevine that Parliament was being summoned&#8221; he was taken aback.<\/p>\n<p>But Alban Bagbin \u00a0described as strange the fact that, \u201cthe Minority Leader had earlier claimed on Accra-based <strong>Citi FM<\/strong> that he was not aware of the recall of Parliament when he signed the motion that formed the basis for the recall.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_127714\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-127714\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ALBAN-SUMANA-BAGBIN.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-127714\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ALBAN-SUMANA-BAGBIN.jpg\" alt=\"Alban Bagbin\" width=\"600\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-127714\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alban Bagbin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear even to the uninitiated that this recall of Parliament and the New Patriotic Party\u2019s strategy that has heralded it has been borne out of clear mischief and a desperate attempt to throw as much dirt at President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the December 7 elections,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minority was not officially consulted on recall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But Mr. Mensah Bonsu, who was asked to explain why he said he had no idea why the Speaker of Parliament had summoned Members of Parliament back to the House from their recess, stood by his points.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, his remarks on<strong> Politicos<\/strong> were because he had not been formally consulted by the Speaker as is the practice.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, the Minority Leader explained that, \u201cThe reason why I said so is this: if you file a motion, ordinarily, the Speaker is the person vested with that singular authority to accept the motion or reject the motion or to maybe accept with some amendments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore the speaker avails himself for any of these rules, they engage the person who proposed the motion. All I said was that, I was not involved and was not consulted by the speaker.
