Asamoah Gyan has taken a dig at Reading FC after his move to Madejski Stadium collapsed. The Ghana captain flew into England on Sunday for talks over a move to Royals and underwent a medical on Monday.

But the club pulled the plug on the loan deal from Chinese side Shanghai SIPG after the frontman failed a medical.

If the 30-year-old is called up by his country for the tournament in Gabon – which runs over January and February – he could miss up to five weeks of the English season. He wrote: “Am proud of my Country. No one can stop me from serving my country. Ghana made me who I am today.” Gyan’s official mobile app (@BabyJetApp) also posted a message on its various platforms, simply saying “Lies, lies, les.”

The forward made his name in England playing for Sunderland, who he joined from Rennes in 2010.

He spent two seasons with the Black Cats before heading to Al Ain in Abu Dhabi where he scored a staggering 73 goals in 65 games – including 44 goals in one season.

Then in July 2015 he joined Chinese Super League team Shanghai – having secured a contract which made him one of the best paid players on the planet – taking home £227,000 a week. He is now looking for a new club after Shanghai signed Hulk for £45m from Zenit.
