Reading-based news portal GetReading has disclosed that Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan’s loan deal has collapsed after he failed his medical.

It has been revealed that Gyan will require at least 8 weeks to return to full fitness in order to partake in first team training.

The collapse of the deal leaves Gyan in limbo with the transfer window set to close in less than 48 hours.

The striker joined Chinese based side Shanghai SIPG in 2015 in a deal that made him one of the highest-paid footballers in the world at the time, with a weekly wage of £227,000.

Gyan was hoping to get valuable first team action with the World Cup qualifiers approaching.

He has endured a number of foot and thigh injuries and has played a subdued role with the Black Stars since the last Afcon in Equatorial Guinea.
