He is however yet to be charged with any offense.<\/p>\n<p>Obinim, who is <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/18\/police-to-investigate-video-of-obinim-flogging-fornicators\/\"><strong>under investigation<\/strong><\/a><\/span> for whipping two teenagers in his church publicly, finally showed up at the police station having been invited by the Tema Regional Police for questioning last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Following a no-show by the preacher, the police issued a 24-hour ultimatum on Sunday for Obinim to present himself to them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/obinimarrest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-242360\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/obinimarrest.jpg\" alt=\"obinimarrest\" width=\"650\" height=\"369\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Tuesday, the police had stated that, they would treat the case as they would treat any other case as Obinim was &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/23\/obinim-is-not-above-the-law-police\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>not above the law<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Obinim sued<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The video showing Obinim whipping the two teenagers with a belt during a service for allegedly engaging in sexual relations and attempting to abort a subsequent pregnancy, went viral on social media provoking condemnation from most Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/obinimarrest2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-242362\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/obinimarrest2.jpg\" alt=\"obinimarrest2\" width=\"768\" height=\"789\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, which confirmed that a complaint had been filed against Obinim at the Tema Regional Police,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/18\/obinim-dragged-to-dovvsu-for-lashing-fornicators-in-church\/\"><strong>filed a separate complaint<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0at the\u00a0Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the Gender Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, said that the Ministry had \u201chas reported Pastor Obinim of the International Godsway Church to the Accra Regional DOVVSU Office for investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A private legal practitioner, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, along with two others, has also sued Obinim and his church over the incident.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/obinimarrest3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-242363\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/obinimarrest3.jpg\" alt=\"obinimarrest3\" width=\"684\" height=\"957\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the complainants, Obinim and his church have a reputation for such \u201cdehumanizing and cruel\u201d actions and that \u201cif care is not taken the exercise of religious freedom would violently violate the 1992 Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mothers of victims defend Obinim<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the mothers of the two teenagers have\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/22\/god-used-obinim-to-flog-our-children-mothers\/\"><strong>jumped to Obinim&#8217;s defense<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>amid widespread public criticism.<\/p>\n<p>According to mothers of the two, the actions of their children were immoral and God had only used the preacher to punish them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;God used Obinim to flog the children so that other young people will learn from it and the young ladies will take care of themselves. To me, it was very necessary because it is a lesson that everybody should learn from,&#8221; one of the mothers said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The revelation came when he was having a live program. I support my father Obinim.
