Member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo Adu Asare says his party has cut ties with policy think tank, Center for Democratic Development (CDD).

“Our General Secretary [Johnson Asiedu Nketia] has already come out to tell Ghanaians that NDC has seized to corporate with anything that CDD is involved in and explanations have already been given to that. That is what my party position is,” he said on Citi FM‘s news analysis programme, The Big Issue.

This follows a survey conducted by the CDD which indicates that, majority of Ghanaians believe the country is headed in the wrong direction and nearly half blame this ‘completely’ or ‘mostly’ on the government.

[contextly_sidebar id=”jGuJCudttxTcUoRS5j5erWGt5wNT56VL”]Following the report, NDC communicators have on several platforms rubbished the survey and accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of masterminding it.

Adu Asare who is also a former Member of Parliament for the Adentan constituency argued that several surveys conducted by the CDD go against the NDC and usually favour their biggest contender, the NPP.

“We have reasons to believe that they are not fair to us as a party. Whatever they’ve done in the past has never inured in any way to our benefit as a party and they’ve always been biased towards the NPP and because some surveys they’ve done in the past pointed that the NPP was going to win the elections and it turned out not to be so,” he noted.

Conduct your own survey

However, President of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe also speaking on The Big Issue admonished the NDC to desist from such attacks.

“The perpetual penchant for this idea of neglecting what every civil society group does is really worrying. I think what they should be doing in this case is that, I would have expected the NDC to have conducted series of polls by now by themselves.”

Disregard NPP-inspired CDD survey

The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho said the CDD report “is something that the NPP cooked and they have put out… it still remains a fact that the CDD, as far as were are concerned, is an appendage of the NPP.”

NDC’s attacks on us unfortunate

CDD had earlier described the attacks from the NDC as unfortunate.

A senior research fellow at the CDD, Dr. Kojo Asante, argued that their findings are a representation of the views of Ghanaians.

“It is unfortunate to hear this again. CDD is 18 years now as an organization. We have been doing this work for many years, and we’re respected all over and this is not the first time we’ve done surveys. We have people who are very experienced in doing surveys. Our samples are open and these are the national representative sample of Ghanaians and these are their views,” Dr. Asante added.
