{"id":24036,"date":"2014-06-11T11:00:09","date_gmt":"2014-06-11T11:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=24036"},"modified":"2014-06-11T12:23:45","modified_gmt":"2014-06-11T12:23:45","slug":"ghanaians-are-outraged-by-increased-corruption-kufour-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/06\/ghanaians-are-outraged-by-increased-corruption-kufour-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghanaians are outraged by increased corruption &#8211; Kufuor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says there is a growing level of despondency among Ghanaians over government\u2019s failure to fight corruption.<\/p>\n<p>The officials in the\u00a0current government have been named in a\u00a0number of alleged corrupt deals and the award of contracts.<\/p>\n<p>Reports indicate contracts awarded under the Savannah Accelerated Authority(SADA) and other local government projects were not executed but the contractors were paid millions of cedis.<\/p>\n<p>The increase in corruption reports has outraged Ghanaians\u00a0with\u00a0many calling on government to urgently investigate them and prosecute those found guilty.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ) recently called on government to invest in the fight against corruption by providing adequate funding to anti-corruption agencies.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mr. Kufuor government\u2019s lack of commitment to fighting the problem is angering many Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the population explosion, everybody is expecting something from the centre, and the centre not being able to provide; this compounds the corruption \u2026there is a ground of unhappiness and of protest,\u201d Mr. Kufuor said.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the BBC , the Former President said more needs to be done to fight the canker. \u201cI\u2019m hopeful that along the way, corruption might be tackled effectively and hopefully \u2026government should be more accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says there is a growing level of despondency among Ghanaians over government\u2019s failure to fight corruption.
