Some Chinese gambling companies have invaded the eastern corridor of the Northern Region.<\/p>\n
Their trade is contributing to the increase in school dropouts in farming communities where the falling standard of education is soaring.<\/p>\n
This is widespread in Ghana\u2019s Reggae Star, Rocky Dawuni\u2019s hometown called Bumbong and Gbintiri in the Yendi Municipality.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”aRNFa3aKmoTx578e6zTbLpreXdoVhEnb”]The chief of Bumbong, Ubor Dawuni Wumbei confirmed this heartbreaking development to Citi News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n He revealed the presence of 15 of such gambling centres in the Bumbong community with a population of 3,000.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is all along the eastern corridor and in Bumbong which is a community of 3,000 people is having 15 of the gambling centres. Children of all ages and women are patronizing it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe sad thing about it is the children who are supposed to be in school and we cannot sit unconcerned and allow it to flourish.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Ubor Dawuni Wumbei, the trade is breeding social vices such as burglary, prostitution and school dropouts in the Bumbong community.<\/p>\n \u201cWe can\u2019t have a small community like this with 15 gambling centres. We want economic development but this is not economic development it is economic depreciation.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat they just bring is machines and fix which add no economic value to our community. It is affecting our moral fiber and it is bringing about thievery, prostitution and all that.\u201d<\/p>\n He therefore admonished the Yendi Municipal Assembly to chase the Chinese gambling operators out of the area. \u201cThey are everywhere, everybody is gambling and how can we gamble and have farms?
