a political gimmick<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nIn an interview with Citi News\u2019<\/strong> correspondent in the Western Region, Obrempong Yaw Ampofo, some residents\u00a0however endorsed Nana Addo\u2019s vision.<\/p>\nOne resident\u00a0was of the view that the NPP could go ahead with the split as long as there is\u00a0enough resources to cater for it.<\/p>\n
It depends on who is seeing it as big. If in their own opinion, they think the region should be divided into two, I think it is fine if only there is money enough to cater for that project.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Another\u00a0posited that, the region could function as a state on its own given the resources the region was endowed with.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the Western Region can even be a state on its own looking at the harbor, an airport, oil and other resources”.<\/p>\n
A number of the residents were generally of the view that, the extra region would help better spread the wealth across the region.<\/p>\n
Their views were encapsulated by one particular resident who said:<\/p>\n
It will be very good if we divide it so the other areas must also have some benefit from the nation. At the moment, the nation has neglected those places without giving them any better development. So if that place is being divided, they can also get something better from the nation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
